A light-heavyweight bout between Patrick Cummins (7-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Rafael Cavalcante (12-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) is the latest addition to UFC 190.
UFC officials recently announced the bout.
UFC 190 takes place Aug. 1 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The main card, headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between champion Ronda Rousey and Brazil’s Bethe Correia, airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
It’s not clear where Cummins vs. “Feijao” will be placed on the lineup.
After a UFC-debut and short-notice loss to Daniel Cormier in early 2014, Cummins worked his way up the 205-pound ladder with consecutive wins over Roger Narvaez, Kyle Kingsbury and Antonio Carlos Junior. However, the 34-year-old former collegiate wrestler made his 2015 debut in April and suffered a first-round knockout loss to Ovince Saint Preux.
He looks to rebound against Cavalcante, a 35-year-old Brazilian knockout artist who’s been inconsistent since his move from Strikeforce, where he was a 205-pound champ, to the UFC in 2013. After a UFC-debut loss to Thiago Silva, which earned “Fight of the Night” honors, “Feijao” earned a TKO victory over Igor Pokrajac. The earned him a step up in competition, but in his most recent bout, he suffered a decision loss to Ryan Bader at UFC 174.
The latest UFC 190 card now includes:
Champ Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia – for women’s bantamweight title
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Mauricio Rua
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Stefan Struve
Rafael Cavalcante vs. Patrick Cummins
Soa Palelei vs. Antonio Silva
